Upgrade your original 256k or 1Meg ICD MIO to match the new MIO Hardware Specification!

We have decided to release "do it yourself" documentation on how to modify/upgrade your 256k or 1meg original ICD MIO to match the hardware specification of the new MIO. This substantially reduces power consumption of the DRAM circuit, improves stability, and makes your MIO compatable with the planned/upcomming MIO Expansion Board when it is released.

MIO Service Manual Released!

We are proud to release this complete set of in-depth documentation of the current hardware spec of the MIO:

MIO "Upper Deck" Expansion Board

We are now planning to release an expansion board which will install inside the MIO case, and plug into the existing board. Planned features include VGA 80 column display output at the "video" port, the ability to use up to 16megabytes of MIO RAM (using a 16meg 30 pin SIMM in the existing MIO SIMM socket,) and a battery backed realtime clock/calendar which will be useable by SpartaDOS/REALDOS for time/date stamping. Here is a screenshot of actual VGA output of a very early prototype of this device:

Firmware Update

It looks like we are going to rewrite the firmware "from the ground up". The reason for this is that there's just not enough room in the stock 8K EPROM to add any sort of worthwhile improvements. So we are going to redesign the firmware to use some of the MIO's on-board RAM to store the USER CONFIG PROGRAM which currently occupies half of the ROM space. This will be pretty transparent to the user because it will be loaded into the RAM from hardisk on initialization. Planned functional improvements include up to 256 partitions per drive, ability to use 512byte sector size, and system workspace copy/restore for seamless entry/exit from the user config menu from any application. Heres a concpetual image of what the new firmware screens could look like:
